CBD is everywhere these days. Not only can you easily find tinctures, topicals and edibles of all varieties, there's even infused activewear, hair products and toothpicks!

I'm often asked, “Is CBD right for me?”, “Should I try CBD?” The most honest answer is, everyone is different.

First, it’s important to understand what CBD is and what it is not.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a non-high inducing component naturally occurring in the Hemp plant. We know is that it supports our Endocannabinoid System (ECS) in repairing its receptors, keeps our natural endocannabinoid neurotransmitters active longer as well as binding with ECS receptors within our various body systems to help maintain balance.

Even after assuring that the patient has a quality product, some patients do better than others. Here is the criteria I use to determine how successful a patient might be with CBD.

1- How aware are you?

Regardless of why you're curious about CBD, you must pay attention to notice the results. Patients often ask what CBD feels like. It might feel like calmness. CBD feels like balance. Which, we may not be familiar with!

Initially, these sometimes subtle results are not always easily detectable, so checking in with yourself, especially through journaling your experiences, can be helpful in noticing the effects of CBD.

2- Are you patient?

CBD does not always work immediately. It can take some trial and error to find the right dose and may take 3-10 days until you "feel something". An awakening of your ECS is often needed as well a build up of CBD in your body. Starting low and gradually increasing your amount taken, while staying aware of potential side effects like drowsiness or change in appetite, is key.

P.S. don't assume if a little is good, then a lot is better. High doses can actually have different effects.

Be patient and discover that right amount for you.

3- Are you open-minded?

Although CBD is available in capsules, many patients are consuming CBD in forms they have never taken before.

CBD is often available as a tincture - a liquid preparation that is placed under the tongue to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream. CBD can also be found in gummies, creams, salves, bath soaks, etc. Some patients find it difficult to change the method of administration to a form they may not be as familiar with to obtain better results.

Working with a Cannabinoid Physician or consultant can help guide your experience to a place of wellness. Don't assume that just because you're not finding the relief you desire right away that CBD is a sham. Consider working with dedicated professionals that care about you and your ability to reclaim your wellness!
